Precision Practice Management Case Study
Missouri Foot and Ankle Institute
Dr. John Dailey worked many years for a hospital before deciding to start his own privately owned medical practice. As a very busy podiatrist, seeing an average of 45 patients a day and performing 20 surgeries a month, Dr. Dailey wanted to get his new practice up and running quickly and effectively - in his words, he wanted "no false starts, no problems, and no issues", but losing the hospital's support left a lot of gaps to be filled. So Dr. Dailey consulted with Precision on how to best make his new practice happen.
Precision started by working with Dr. Dailey to build an implementation checklist, identifying all the things that needed to be done in order to get the new practice going. Precision coordinated leasing Dr. Dailey's office space and negotiating the purchase of his medical and office equipment. Precision helped establish banking accounts for the new practice (Missouri Foot and Ankle) and financing for an associated retail entity that sells orthotics (The Foot Store). Payroll accounting, benefits administration, financial accounting, marketing materials- all of those things were coordinated by Precision on behalf of Dr. Dailey. Precision's tech staff evaluated all pre-existing computer equipment and determined the scope of need for new equipment for the practice. Precision arranged for the proper phone and internet service, and coordinated the install. Once Encite Billing Manager was up and running, Precision trained the Missouri Foot and Ankle office staff to enter patient demographics, patient insurance and charges. Precision then picked up all billing support downstream from there, including electronic billing, clearinghouse error edits, payment posting, denial management, appeals, secondary claims and accounts receivable management. "When the go-live date arrived, everything went very smoothly" said Dr. Dailey. "Precision had trained my staff well for the tasks they would perform in EBM. It couldn't have started off better". Precision had installed all computer and network equipment, including network virus and anti-spam protection, and followed up a few weeks later with a domain controller. But there was more to come.
"I wanted to go electronic clinically" said Dr. Dailey. "But I knew I did not need an expensive, full-blown EHR system - I was looking for value - a software system that would make me more efficient - so Precision recommended Encite Lite". After settling down from the official EBM start up, Precision worked with Dr. Dailey and his staff, mapping out the specialty-specific workflow of Missouri Foot and Ankle. Then it was time for Dr. Dailey to go live on Encite Lite. "It was incredibly smooth" said Dr. Dailey. "By the end of the first day, I had fully mastered the Dragon® interface with Encite Lite and was completing my office notes and referral letters without issues. I also am able to take advantage of Encite patient flow tracking and charge capture download. And it has only gotten better since - the Encite Lite system saves me a lot of time compared to what I was doing before. It has not only dramatically lowered my transcription costs but allows me to spend more time with patients. I cannot imagine myself going back to what I was doing before."
