April 2011

Over the past 10 months, Precision has embraced Cloud and Virtualization technology to significantly enhance its internal platform and deploy advanced software tools in support of its clients.  Precision has installed new Virtual Servers and Storage Area Networks (SANs) in its data centers, expanding application delivery capabilities and augmenting disaster recovery capabilities through offsite replication and redundancy.

Cloud Technology, as deployed at Precision, enables any physician practice or hospital to store its practice management and clinical information and data on Precision’s servers, thereby benefitting from all of the latest technology and applications, at low cost.   Server Virtualization supports the implementation of a cloud environment by allowing Precision’s server infrastructure to create multiple “server environments” supporting all client applications, but without requiring the traditional one-to-one relationship between servers and those supported applications, further enhancing efficiency and productivity.

First, Precision now offers a hosted model for its ONC certified EHR platforms, resulting in a low-cost opportunity for purchasing and implementing EHR systems.

Second, Precision’s core internal systems are now supported on the latest technology, providing enhanced performance and improved reliability.

Third, Precision continues to evaluate and implement cloud-based services for e-mail hosting, mobile device access, web/e-mail filtering and anti-virus services.

Fourth, virtual technology greatly improves Precision’s ability to respond to physical hardware failures, allowing Precision to migrate virtual machines from one physical machine to another, resulting in minimal maintenance and support downtime.

Cloud Computing and Virtualization set the stage for accessing products and services that would otherwise be cost prohibitive – access to applications via smartphones and other mobile devices for example, or the implementation of up-to-date technology to prevent intrusion and enhance staff productivity.
